Easy to Drive New Hymer Motorhomes

Drive one of new Hymer motorhomes it’s easy.

Call now to hire a hymer 01636 63636362

All our new Hymer motorhome models are based on the right hand drive Fiat Ducato chassis. They have power drive steering and a 5 speed manual gearbox making them a pleasure to drive. The gear lever is a stubby stick conveniently positioned on the driver dash board, in an ideal ease of use position for the first time motorhome driver. The first thing you notice is the high driving position which gives you every opportunity to be able to anticipate road conditions ahead; to judge bends and brake more easily. Making the drive easier for motorhome passengers. There is plenty of height and recline adjustment to the seat and you generally adopt a more upright and relaxed driver position. The seat combined with the power steering makes the motorhome easier to drive for first time drivers.

Motorhome Drive Position

You are bigger than a car and need to drive the motorhome out a little to the middle of the road to avoid overhanging trees on the nearside and drive over a bit more to avoid the odd cyclist and car when overtaking. Take a bigger swing when manoeuvring the motorhome but you will be surprised at the turning circle which beats some 4x4’s. Reversing the motorhome is always best done with a passenger on the ground or for you to get out and make your own check before starting.

Motorhome Drive Speed

Keep your speed steady until you gain confidence and remember relax you are on motorhome holiday. Car transporters create dirty air when they drive past on the motorway, keep a steady line and let them drive by.

Your driver mirrors become your best friend on your motorhome holiday, they are big and when correctly positioned will allow you to scan for fast approaching traffic. Remember to set them up before you drive. Hymer Motorhomes have limited through-vision and some none at all so you soon start to rely on the mirrors.

Motorhome Drive Style

Our new Hymer Motorhomes are easy to drive but different to a car. Take things at a steadier pace and drive trying to anticipate braking and cornering to make the journey more comfortable and reduce the number of complaints from the navigators. Especially if it is your first time drive experience of hymer motorhome hire. You will be new to this hymer drive experience so take your time and enjoy the drive, take short breaks to making the route easier for yourself. Do not push yourself to much the first day of your hire, enjoy your holiday. Give yourself time to get use to the Hymer power steering and vehicle handling. Finally remember all handbrakes are on the right hand side.
